Weight Loss: Your News Year's Resolution

What New Year's Resolutions are you going to make? Losing weight, being slimmer, not eating chocolate or joining a gym. Are these the same New Year's Resolutions you've made in previous years? If the answer is yes - then stop and don't make them this year. Allow this pressure to be removed, stop giving yourself a hard time and be fair to yourself. I encourage you NOT to make any New Year's resolutions because generally they don't work. In fact, they probably only last a couple of weeks at the most. How do you feel when the resolution hasn't lasted? Probably that you've failed and this feeling is one of the things that often drives us to overeat. So, don't set yourself up to fail.

New Year's Resolutions often don't work because they begin with "should", for example. "I should lose weight" or "I should join a gym". A "should" is what other people expect of us, which results in pressure we put on ourselves to conform. "Should" makes us worry and try to accomplish too much. The pressure from family, friends and society to lose weight is immense and it's this pressure that leaves us feeling that we "should" do something about it. As this message comes from outside sources, there isn't the same level of commitment from you and then, when you don't manage to stick to your resolutions, you probably feel as if you've failed.

Restrictive dieting sets you up to fail and invariably New Year's resolutions do the same. So, if you put the two together, the feeling of failure is intensified. When weight loss is a "should" for you, it will make you do too much too quickly. The changes required are huge and are inevitably difficult to maintain. Be gentle and loving with yourself this year and don't put yourself through this. Rather than deciding to lose weight and pulling out all the stops, approach losing weight as something to do a little at a time, but regularly. Treat it as something to continue with. Do what feels right for you, feels achievable and you feel ready for, e.g. you may feel ready to stop the habit of putting sugar in your tea and coffee. Discover ways to be successful with your weight loss and to achieve your desires. Tune into what you really want, decide on some action steps and start taking the ones that feel right for you today.

You can commit to making healthy changes in your life. One healthy change I really encourage you to consider is to get some support. Find someone who is totally on your side and who will be there and encourage you at all times. This may be a friend, a coach or a group of like-minded people. I suggest choosing people who are positive and will cheer you on, particularly at times when you're finding it hard to keep going. Ask for their support and be specific about what you need. For example, "Would you support me in eating more healthily by reminding me every day of all the healthy things I've done." We often forget how well we're doing, the success we've achieved and concentrate instead on the things we haven't done so well. Focus on your success and the support you're getting as you progress.

Make a list of what you need. Be specific and keep it positive, i.e. what you want to have, not what you don't want. Now, ask yourself "Who do I know who would support me with this?" Go and ask them.

We often try to do things on our own and it's so much more difficult. You don't need to go it alone. Having someone to support you makes a huge difference to the changes you need to make to achieve permanent weight loss.

So, you have problem, -How to lose 20 lbs in 7 days? There is a solution to this problem but it will take some tough dieting and exercising.

First of all, why are you in this position? Why do you need to lose that much weight in such a short period of time?
Wait, don't stop reading because you are likely to find the solution down below.

Procrastination is one of the main reasons that you are in this position, you could have started this diet a month ago or even a year ago. It would have made your weight loss so much easier but instead your in for a week that you could call 'Hell-week' based on the last week of Navy seals training. Are you going to ring the bell? Are you going to quit on me? No? -Well, drop and give me 50!

OK, time to get serious. Losing weight is all about your eating habits and you exercising habits. Before I became a professional dieter, I had no habits, I ate when I saw fit and exercising? Well, I walk a lot at work. What I really didn't understand was that although I ate less then my skinny friends I was still the fat one but then I realized that this was my problem. No habits and no diet plan makes it hard, not only to lose weight but it makes life harder in general. -Why? Because you blood sugar goes up and down like a yoyo making your pancreas produce large amounts of insulin and 1) Increase the rate that calories are being stored as fat 2) Lowering blood sugar levels making you tired, angry and hungry. People with a fluctuating blood sugar level are those that get cranky between every break at work. After a snack they shine up like the sun but in half an hour they drop like stone.

The first step in to take is to get a stable blood sugar level and this is achieved by eating the 'good' carbs. The 'bad' carbohydrates are those that makes your blood sugar level explode, like, sugar, honey etc. Remember that processed foods of contains a lot of 'bad' carbs and if you buy a non-fat or low-fat product it is still very fattening.

Step 2 in a successful weight loss is that you need to know what you need to eat. Calories are found in three different food ingredients, carbohydrates (read above), protein and fat. A lot of different diets like Atkins, South Beach, Mayo clinic etc have the basic principle of excluding one of the three in the induction-phase and then the re-introduce the nutrient in small quantities in the second phase and so on. I believe that this is the wrong way to start losing weight.

I believe that we need calories from all three because that is the way that every animal eat, humans not excluded. So why chose an unnatural way of losing weight? For instance, the Atkins diet excludes carbs and you are not even allowed to eat a small apple during the induction-phase, does that seem natural?

The trick to fast weight loss is (in my opinion and my own experience) eating all kinds of calories but to eat them at the right time, the latter is crucial. Diets that use calorie-shifting have been used for the latest decades, have you ever heard of the Danish (not the pastry, the country) National Hospitals diet? They made a diet years ago that used this strategy the only problem was that you needed to be very strict, you had to weigh your foods etc making it hard to follow.

Today there is a development of this strategy that helps your metabolism speed up. Eating a different kind of calorie than what your body expects makes your body burn fat.

With this diet alone (no exercise) you could lose 20 lbs in 20 days, but you are in hurry, right?

To speed up your weight loss you should do fat burning exercises, like running, aerobics, spinning etc. If you still aim at being 20 lbs lighter by the next week you really need to get started. It is probably possible to lose 20 lbs in 7 days if you include the loss of water weight meaning the water that you lose during the diet. In my perspective nothing is impossible, but this is close to it.

In addition, starving yourself leads to muscle breakdown, which leads to a lower metabolism. It's a vicious circle.

Eat Often

Divide your daily calorie plan into 3 meals and 3 snacks.

Women who eat more frequently throughout the day are much leaner than those who eat large meals at irregular times.

Enjoy More Protein

Protein keeps you feeling fuller, longer. This helps you stick to your nutrition plan by reducing hunger cravings.

And a great bonus is that protein takes more calories to break down, so eating more protein leads to a higher metabolism.

Protein is also the source of the amino acid leucine, which helps you keep your sexy lean muscle even while you're on a diet.

In this article you'll learn why most of the people going on a diet fails. Recent statistics tells us that almost 95% of the people who wants to lose weight fails. Why do they fail and why is it so hard to lose weight?

To be successful you just can start on a diet. A diet is more of a symptomatic treatment and it doesn't treat the real reason for you being overweight. The 5% that succeeds are those that make a profound change in their lifestyle. You have to change your attitude towards food, cooking and ingredients. Exercise is usually a an important ingredient in the new life.

A diet can help if it is holistic and take every part of your life into the diet. There are a few that are proven to do really well, weightwatchers are one of those, another one is called 'Burn the Fat, Feed The Muscle'. Those diet plans gives you a fundamental ideology on a healthy lifestyle.

Many of the modern diets is based upon excluding a certain group of foods. The Atkins diet is one of the most well-known. From my perspective it seems unhealthy to exclude a basic ingredient in our metabolism. Those who follow this diet strictly will get a condition called ketoacidosis and once achieved your breath will start to smell like acetone (nail-polish remover). Healthy? -I don't know, but it burns fat. Are we really that eager to lose weight?

Other diets based on non-fat and low-calorie are also great for losing weight in a short period of time but once you start to eat normally you gain the pounds you lost. Why? - Well, for example, if you go on a low calorie diet you lose some weight in the first days but then your body adjusts its metabolism to burn less calories.

Let's say that you eat 2500 calories today and tomorrow you start a low calorie diet, eating an extreme 600 calories per day. First of all, you will feel a string hunger for more food, you will be easily irritated and have a hard time to concentrate. After 3 days you have lost a couple of pounds but your body still wants more calories but it is starting to adopt to this starvation-like calorie intake. Then the body goes into starvation-mode and you stop burning much more calories. The body is a great mechanism.

After one week on this extreme diet you may have lost up to 7 pounds but you don't feel very well. After the diet ends and you go back to eating normally your body is still in starvation-mode and it starts to save all of the extra calories and where do the body save those calories? - In fat tissue, and that means that you most likely gain the pounds you tortured your self to lose.

Besides weightwatchers and 'Burn The Fat, Feed The Muscle' there is a diet that doesn't require such a profound change and it is called calorie-shifting. It is not a new diet, it has been around for the last decades but recently it got a twist. With this diet you get to eat four times per day and at every meal you may eat just short of full. calorie-shifting means that you eat different kinds of calories every day and thus tricking your body into a fat-burning mode. You see, the body adjusts the metabolism based on the previous 2-3 days of calorie-intake (that is why low-calorie diet isn't any good). Now, if you shift between various food groups and calories the body won't know what you are going to eat next and it accelerates the metabolism by using energy stored in fat tissue.

Calorie-shifting diets are based on cycles and in this new version that means that you are on the diet for eleven days and then you get three free days where you are allowed to eat almost anything and then you go back on the diet for another eleven days. There are reports telling us that an average weight loss during every cycle is almost 10 pounds!

Your weight loss efforts can be a real drag...but they don't have to be.

It isn't only struggle with not being able to eat everything you want to and having to exercise when you don't want to that makes it so difficult; it's what goes on in your mind that causes the biggest struggle. People who are happy with the weight loss process are much likelier to succeed than those who struggle with it.

Your weight loss efforts can be a happy process or a miserable drudgery, depending on what goes on in your mind.

**The Great Mind-Over-Fatter Principle**

Okay, what is the mind-over-fatter principle? The mind-over-fatter principle is simply:

"Those who keep their mind in a happy state will enjoy life more and will succeed at weight loss."

Well, actually, this principle applies to all walks of life. Why be miserable when you can be happy by doing something as simple as changing your mind.

**The Great Flower Garden Principle**

Another principle? No, actually this principle is the same as the "Mind-Over-Fatter" principle, only it tells you how to keep your mind in a happy state, even when things aren't going your way.

Here it is:

"Don't stick your head in the garbage can and expect for life to smell like roses. If you want your life to smell like roses, hang out in the rose garden."

Get the picture? Life will always have garbage situations. This is true for everyone. There is always the garbage can part of life where things just stink. But there is also always a garden part of every person's life where there is sunshine and roses.

The question is: Where do you want to hang out? It's your choice.

You can live with your head in the garbage can (negative thinking, grumbling) part of your life and sit around and wonder why life stinks. Or you can refuse to stick your head in the garbage can and live with your head among the roses of life (positive and fun things).

Here's how it works:

Whenever you can't eat the fat-producing food you want, be glad you can eat what's going to have you looking slimmer and trimmer. Hey, this food is better for your health too.

And when it's time to take a brisk walk and you really don't want to, don't think about how much you don't want to walk, think about how good you are going to look and how much better you are going to feel at this time next year if you faithfully take your walks.

When you look into the mirror, don't think about how fat you are; think about how good you are going to look in six months. When you weigh yourself and see that you have lost 5 pounds, don't think about how much more fat you have to lose, think about how much fat is in a 5-pound can of Crisco and say, "Wow, thank God I got rid of that...in six months 50 pounds of that stuff will be gone...Yippee!"

Get the idea? It may be difficult at first, if you are used to thinking negatively, but the results you experience will be well worth the effort.

Try it...you'll like it! And, believe me, this better way of thinking will pay off with a much happier life, many lost pounds, and a slimmer body.

Proteins: Proteins are the building blocks in your body. Most tissues in your body are replaced with new tissue every three month, some tissues are replaced every week. That is important to know and a diet needs to have enough proteins to allow new tissues to be built.

Fat: Fat is also essential. Fat is used for energy in your body. An important fact about fat is that it slows down the metabolism of carbohydrates and thus keeps your blood sugar and insulin levels at reasonable levels. This is important if you want to burn fat in an effective way.

Carbohydrates: Also known as carbs. Carbs are used as energy in your body, carbs are the premium fuel. There are several different kinds of carbohydrates and some are 'bad' while dieting and some are 'good'. There are several diets recommending that you stay of carbs all together but it's not a way to get a durable weight loss. Once you introduce the carbs again your blood suger will spike and increase the rate that fat stores in cells.

Here is the menu:

Day 1:

Breakfast: ½ grapefruit, 1 toast (no butter), 2 teaspoons of peanut-butter

Dinner: 10 fl oz tuna-fish(canned in water), 10 fl oz beetroot, 10 fl oz cauliflower, 5 fl oz honey melon, 5 fl oz vanilla ice-cream.

Like mentioned before it is very important to follow this diet like it is written above, if it is altered in any way it may not work for you.

Now you will learn why this diet is not healthy. First of all it makes you lose weight faster than the body can burn fat. Even if you drink a lot, the weight loss will consist of 20% fat, 40% water and 40% lean muscle. So let's say that you lost 5 pounds, according to the percentage above you lost 1 pound of fat, 2 pounds of water weight and 2 pounds of lean muscle. Did you want to lose that much muscle? Probably not. All of the diets making you lose more than 1-2 pounds per week will burn your muscle mass for energy.

It's hard to read magazines or watch television without coming across an advertisement for some weight loss pill. In reality, some of these weight loss products can actually be harmful to you and your health. They may have side effects that aren't even listed on the packaging. If you feel you need that extra push, diet pills and supplements may help, but be sure you consult your doctor before taking them and do your research to find the ones that will work best for you.

Only authentic hoodia gordonii has the potential ability to suppress appetite. Unfortunately, the majority of the hoodia supplements and products on the market today contain very little of it - if any at all! Supplements are unregulated so it's buyer beware. You can't assume a product contains authentic hoodia just because it says it does.

There are several things to look for to ensure that the diet product you are buying contains authentic hoodia. The two most important are CITES certificates and independent lab test results. You'll find these documents on the websites of those companies who sell authentic hoodia diet products. If you can't find these, it is very likely that the product doesn't contain authentic hoodia gordonii. I could not find these documents on any website that sells or promotes hoodia pops. That is a major red flag.

The other issue is the amount of hoodia in hoodia pops. Most experts agree that most people will need 2,250-3,000mg of hoodia gordonii per day in order for it to effectively suppress appetite. Again, after looking through several websites selling hoodia pops, I could not determine how much hoodia is in them. This is another red flag.

Based on my research and experience with hoodia products for over a year now, these lollipops likely have less than 200mg of hoodia gordonii per sucker - and that's being generous. The amount is likely much lower than that. And again, this is assuming that the hoodia is authentic in the first place, which we don't know for sure. This small amount of hoodia isn't nearly enough to effectively suppress appetite. You'd have to suck on several lollipops all day long to get enough hoodia to effectively suppress appetite!

Having said all this, there is a chance that these hoodia pops could suppress appetite work in the short term. These lollipops may have a placebo effect. If you are told they work, you might actually convince yourself that they do! Thus, you may convince yourself that you feel full after you suck on them. However, this placebo effect doesn't last forever. The other possibility is that the simple act of having something in your mouth may keep you occupied and keep your mind off food.

The bottom line is Hollywood and its celebrities may think hoodia pops help with weight loss, but I'm not convinced. In my opinion these are just overpriced lollipops with a lot of hype. There is no harm in trying them yourself, but just don't expect much!

A single serving of whole grain bread or oatmeal moves fat through the digestive system faster. The faster fat can move through your system, the less fat that accumulates or is stored by the body. You want to prevent the body from storing too much fat. By incorporating exercise, fiber, and low fat foods, you cut off the supply of fat that is available to collect in those areas of the body that you want to slim down, like love handles and buttocks.

Keep away from fried foods especially deep-fried as this contains the greatest amount of fat. Don't think that eating chicken, fish, or lean beef will avoid the fat problem. Fish, chicken, and beef will load your body with fat if deep fried. It's not the meat type that is the problem or solution, it is how it is cooked. It is recommended for those on strict diet to opt for grilled or baked meat to eliminate much of the fat as opposed to deep frying. Even using this low fat method of cooking, you should also opt for smaller portions of meat than you have been eating. Gradually, begin eating more veggies and less meat and potatoes at main meals.

Drink lots of water but don't drown yourself. If you are exercising daily, drinking at least six to eight glasses of water a day keeps the body refreshed. Drink less if you are not exercising. At least four glasses are day is good because weight loss depends on how the body eliminates body wastes. Water is a great fat eliminator and your body must stay hydrated. By the way, a diet drink is not water. It contains water but also contains chemicals. Drink only water for now.

As for diet pills, be very careful. Again, get your doctor's advice. He may prescribe a water pill, for example, to get rid of excess water weight. The fat will be eliminated with diet and exercise not by using pills.

Discipline and consistency are still the keys to weight loss success. Light dieting, workout, and right amount of supplementation applied in a regular way everyday will result in faster weight loss and keeping it off.
